Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean - 1977-78 British Ice Dance Championships OSP

I am uploading this on 12th July 2025, the day Torvill and Dean are due to give the final performance of their careers, where it all began, in Nottingham, the final stop of their farewell tour, 'Our Last Dance'. So it seemed the right day to upload this - not quite the first, but one of their first dances. This home video was filmed rinkside at the 1977-78 British Ice Dance Championships held in November 1977, at the old Nottingham ice rink. An almost complete look at their OSP which was a paso doble. Eight years later, their Capriccio Espagnol Paso Doble would capture the imagination of the world. Here they were so young, but this would be their first senior national medal and won them a place on the European and World team for the first time. To my knowledge, this is the earliest known footage of them that is not in private ownership. They were trained at this point by the late great Janet Sawbridge. WIthout Janet, there would have been no T&D. So while today is the day to say goodby, and thank you...it's also a chance to see where it all began, almost 50 years ago.
