How to Use Manganese Phosphate - 1966 Mustang GT Rebuild Pt. 6
This week we finish up the engine bay and do a little phosphatin'. Or whatever you call mixing a super flammable liquid with water and tossing in some car parts over an open flame. Manganese Phosphate Procedure Equipment Needed: 1. Tank made of stainless steel, Pyrex glass, or enameled steel. Grey/white porcine roasting pans work well too. 2. Thermometer that measures up to 200° 3. Measuring cup (ounces) 4. Stainless steel or rubber coated tongs 5. Open heat source that can maintain constant temperature of 190-200° Directions: 1. Heat 1-2 gallons of distilled water to 190-200° (do NOT let it boil) 2. Add 14oz of concentrate to 1 gallon of distilled water 3. Add part(s) to solution, making sure the part is completely submerged 4. Part(s) to should start fizzing immediately 5. Agitate part(s) around in the solution to ensure even coating 6. Let part(s) sit till fizzing stops (usually 8-10 minutes) 7. Take the part(s) out of the solution 8. Coat part(s) with WD40, this will help color set and prevent rust 9. Repeat step 7, 2-3 times When complete, the product can be re-used if strained through a paint strainer and rebottled in a plastic container.
