Dutch History: Charles Kingsford Smith Arrives in Amsterdam (1930)

EN - On August 1, 1930, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, a pioneering Australian aviator, along wireless operator John Stannage, arrived with KLM in Amsterdam, after the completion of their round-the-world flight between Australia and England in a Fokker F.VIIb/3m aircraft called the Southern Cross. The flight took just over 12 days and covered a distance of over 17,000 kilometers. They were welcomed at the Schiphol Airport by their Dutch co-pilot Evert van Dijk, and all three were celebrated and honored during the festivities.
