Equally breathtaking is the sight of five colossal mountain ranges converging into what's known as the Pamir Plateau - the grand knot of Central Asia's peaks. But as the aircraft gradually descends, an unexpected oasis emerges from the barren landscape, catching every eye with its sudden vibrancy.
