Of the Saigoku Kaido Road, this route runs through the central part of Hiroshima City. Over the past four to five hundred years, the city has reclaimed Hiroshima Bay, built moats and rivers, and then reclaimed them again to build roads. The width of the road was set at 2.5 ken (4.5 m), but most of the roads in downtown Hiroshima today seem to be wider than that.
