I Found Seoul's Hidden Countryside

After having explored over 180 neighborhoods, you’d be surprised to hear that Seoul can still surprise me. Dobong-dong in Dobong-gu District was one of those neighborhoods. In the far north of Seoul, this place barely felt like Seoul at all, and that’s exactly why it stole a place in my heart. From hidden valleys and mountain temples to Cold War defense structures disguised as apartment buildings, Dobong-dong turned out to be one of the most unexpected neighborhoods I’ve explored so far. Its strange mix of countryside atmosphere, history, and forgotten stories was right up my alley. 180개가 넘는 서울 동네를 탐험했는데도, 아직 서울이 저를 놀라게 할 수 있다는 사실에 저 스스로도 놀랐습니다. 도봉구 도봉동이 바로 그런 곳이었어요. 서울의 가장 북쪽에 있는 이 동네는 거의 서울 같지 않았고, 그래서 더 마음을 빼앗겼습니다. 숨겨진 계곡과 산속 사찰부터 아파트처럼 위장된 냉전 시대 방어 시설까지, 도봉동은 지금까지 제가 탐험한 동네 중 가장 예상 밖의 장소 중 하나였습니다. 시골 같은 분위기와 역사, 그리고 잊힌 이야기들이 묘하게 섞여 있는 도봉동, 정말 제 취향을 저격했어요!
