Die „Amerikalinie“ Uelzen–Soltau–Langwedel

The legendary "America Line" Stendal–Uelzen–Langwedel was part of a major railway line between Berlin and the North Sea ports until 1945, when it was severed by the German-German border and dwindled into an insignificant branch line. While the eastern section, Stendal–Uelzen, has since regained main line status and is slated for complete double-tracking by 2028, the section west of Uelzen remains largely unused. Its expansion has been under discussion since 1990 – current plans call for electrification and the addition of five passing loops by 2035. This video, in its usual style, illuminates the history, present, and future of this largely forgotten line, focusing, as always, on its infrastructure. Hop aboard and join us on a dreamy east-west journey through the Lüneburg Heath!
