Awesome Scenic MontgomeryKONE Traction Elevators - Macy's - Somerset Collection (North) - Troy, MI

Of all the elevators at Somerset Collection, this pair of MontgomeryKONEs at Macy's are the ones I wanted to see the most. Somerset's Macy's is (from what I understand) the last one remaining that has the classic architecture and central atrium from the Marshall Fields era. This design heavily included wood and would have some custom features, which incorporates directly into the elevators (such as the custom lanterns and lines surrounding the doors and panels). Previous Macy's stores with this design include Maplewood Mall in Maplewood, MN, and RiverTown Crossings in Grandville, MI. I had grown up going to the Maplewood store quite often, and I always enjoyed the elevators in the atrium (I have a final ride video of those I will post eventually). As such, I wanted to ride the ones at Somerset's Macy's as they allow the experience of that design to shine on. In regard to Somerset's Macy's, these elevators are just plain awesome. For starters, they are scenic (with glass exterior doors) and go right through the store's main atrium in the center. Complete with the Montgomery VFD indicator, they are traction for 3 floors, which is certainty something you don't see everyday. Due to their configuration, they are quite efficient for the constant traffic at (from what I understand is) the busiest Macy's store in the Detroit area. Despite their high speed, they are unfortunately quite busy. It didn't help on this visit that the down escalator from 3 was broken, but I'm pretty sure these are always busy regardless. I personally love a Montgomery/MontgomeryKONE Traction, and since these nodded towards the old Maplewood Macy's, I had a lot of fun on these. I hope these stick around!
