Gesso 🌿 primes the painting surface, whether paper, cardboard, wood, or canvas 🌿 seals the surface so that paint doesn't seep into the surface, 🌿 but also simultaneously enables the surface to absorb paint well, and 🌿 gives the painting surface a certain bite, a kind of fine grain to which pigments adhere well.
