Campbell, who has experienced past trauma, revealed that he had been in a dark place leading to this incident, triggered by revisiting a past relationship with hip-hop artist Afrika Bambaataa and the abuse he suffered during that time. He admitted he had drunk alcohol intensively, which led him to a state in which he challenged alleged shooters in the Bronx River Projects, where he grew up. He was subsequently shot, with bullets hitting his shoulder and back. Significant footage of the incident was caught on his live YouTube stream. He credited his survival to past experiences and a swift transition into survival mode.
