Here is what went down in today’s village adventure: 👇👇👇 👵🏼 6 AM Market Run & Prep: My awesome in-laws woke up at 6 AM to raid the local Caijia market for the freshest hotpot ingredients. Since my 95yo grandma loves a lively house, the pressure was on me to prep a literal mountain of food! 🍲 3 Tables of Pure Bliss: Chongqing hotpot at home is unmatched! My husband took over as the head chef, serving up over 20 dishes—tripe, goose intestines, squid, duck gizzard, and a special nourishing duck soup just for Grandma. 🌳 Healing Countryside Walk: After stuffing ourselves, we drove down a breezy, lush green lane to my Aunt's rustic old house. We shucked fresh corn, smelled the fragrant Sichuan peppercorns, and harvested fresh bitter melon and cucumbers straight from the garden. 🦟 Mosquito Attack & Ice Cream Drama: The countryside is beautiful, but the mosquitoes are brutal! After getting eaten alive, we went on a quick popsicle run to cool off... and yes, I totally forgot my brother the first time around! 😂 🀄️ The Epic $0.15 Mahjong Battle: To end the festival, we sat down for a friendly Mahjong game with 1 RMB ($0.15 USD) stakes.
