Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital (Akhand Jyoti) aims to at least double its operational capacity so that it spearheads the efforts to make low income states (such as Bihar, Eastern UP, etc) blind free by 2022. We also intend to establish the world's first Centre of Excellence in eye care in a rural area (in Bihar), thereby bringing speciality world-class treatment to the doorsteps of the most deprived sections of our population. Blindness is closely associated with low income levels and it strongly believes that eliminating blindness will greatly improve the gap in low income areas. Akhand Jyoti is also engaged in educating, skilling and giving employment to young girls from financially disadvantaged families in rural areas. Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital started in 2006, and is currently doing more than 70,000 eyes (mainly cataract) surgeries each year. 80% of these are provided free of charge to people who cannot afford the treatment cost.
