This isn't just a one-off event, but a constantly growing open-air museum that has transformed the entire city. Its Origins: Art as Healing After the Flood One of the main motivations for the massive promotion of street art in Los Alcázares was to cope with natural disasters. The city was severely affected by extremely heavy flooding (known as DANAs) in the past (especially in 2016 and 2019). Many buildings and streets were destroyed or scarred by mud. The municipality and local initiatives used urban art to literally bring "color, life, and hope" back to the affected neighborhoods. Artists from Around the World The municipality regularly invites not only local talent from the Murcia region, but also internationally renowned street artists. This diversity ensures that a wide range of styles blend together on the streets – from hyperrealistic portraits to abstract geometry and classic graffiti styles. The Los Alcázares city council not only provides the walls (often in consultation with the homeowners), but also finances the materials and organizes aerial work platforms for the gigantic facades. In addition, the city publishes maps and even offers guided bicycle and walking tours to explore the artworks.
