Algeria is the largest country in Africa, located in North Africa along the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital is Algiers, and the official languages are Arabic and Tamazight. Most of the country is covered by the Sahara Desert, while the northern region has fertile coastal cities and mountains. Algeria gained independence from France in 1962 after a long war. The country is rich in oil and natural gas, has a vibrant Amazigh and Arab culture, delicious food such as couscous, and a strong passion for football. Famous attractions include the Casbah of Algiers, Timgad, and the desert landscapes of Tassili n’Ajjer.
