Building Ghana's Yapei Bridge over the White Volta 4K

Our journey today takes us to Yapei in Ghana’s Savannah Region, where one of the country’s most significant bridge infrastructure projects is taking shape over the mighty White Volta River. Captured through aerial drone footage, we begin with a bird’s-eye view of the vast river system, the existing bridge, and the new bridge currently under construction. At this time of the year, the White Volta carries large volumes of sediment, creating a unique landscape that highlights the scale and complexity of building a major river crossing. The Yapei Bridge Project, valued at approximately $180 million, is designed to improve connectivity along one of Ghana’s most important transport corridors. The new bridge is being constructed as an additional crossing alongside the existing bridge, which will continue to serve traffic moving through the northern corridor. Once completed, the new bridge will provide improved traffic flow, increased transport capacity, and better connectivity between communities in the north and the southern parts of Ghana. Heavy trucks and commercial vehicles travelling along key routes will benefit from improved movement, reducing pressure on the existing infrastructure.
