Who was Mahmut Pasha? (Part 1) Part 2 👉🏻    • Mengejutkan! Fakta Sejarah Mahmut Pasha ya...   Damat Mahmut Celaleddin Paşa, also known as Mahmut Paşa, was born in Istanbul in 1854/1853. His father, Gürcü Halil Rıfat Paşa, served four terms as a naval captain for the Ottoman Empire. His mother, İsmet Hanım, was the second wife of Halil Rıfat Paşa. Halil Rıfat Paşa was also known as a Georgian, coming from the Kozma family of the Abhaz tribe. Halil Rıfat was brought to Istanbul as a slave when he was still a child. An Ottoman official, Hüsrev Paşa, bought him, raised him, trained his abilities, and provided him with a proper education. Later, Sultan Mahmut II appointed Rıfat Paşa as a warship captain because he liked Halil Rıfat Paşa's character. It is reported that after one of the European ambassadors returned from his visit to Sultan Mahmut II, Halil Rıfat Paşa uttered the historic statement, "If we do not resemble Europe, we must retreat to Asia." *** _________ Thank you for watching.
