Canterbury Green-Waste

A long time ago I posted my first video of a Richards side loader with a comb lifter, which was of the units recycling. Well not too long after I took that footage I returned to Canterbury way back in April 2009 for the garbage and green-waste trucks. I stopped by a suburb called Punchbowl found at the top of the council straight after videoing the Auburn trucks one Monday morning. It didn't take very long for me to find streets lined up with full bins and within minutes I found a garbage truck, then a green-waste truck shortly after. JJ Richards is currently contracted to service the three bins from households each week, council handles the clean-up themselves and URM is contracted for litter bins. I noticed they use a mix of Hinos and Ivecos for the side loaders and only single axles for recycling... they're also the only remaining side loaders in Sydney which use comb lifters. Early next year around February the contract is due to expire, which will see Cleanaway send out their brand new equipment for the collections. It'll be a shame to see the old trucks go, but I am looking forward to seeing the big blue machines on the road - fingers crossed I'll be able to get some footage of the trucks during the first week of operation. In this video you get to see one of the ACCOs used on green-waste collections, which I noticed has a longer arm and the buffer at the top of the hopper adds a lot of height. A driver also told me that the council wants all the lids closed and wants the bins to be placed back on or as near to the kerb as possible... pretty crappy rules. A big thanks to the champion driver, check out the short garbage and recycling videos featuring a couple of Hinos.
