Inside CIPCO's Field Safety Training Day 2026!

In our industry, safety drills aren't playtime. They’re hands-on opportunities to practice and polish lifesaving skills. All CIPCO line crews participated in a large-scale field safety training this month led by Scott Meinecke of the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives at the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities campus in Ankeny. This marked the first time CIPCO has had a field training day with this amount of scale and skill sessions. The training included pole top rescue, bucket rescue, self-rescue (rappelling), and hot line work simulations. There was also emphasis on induced voltage scenarios, which happen when a power line becomes energized without being directly connected to an active power source. When your job requires you to put your life in the hands of others, routine safety training isn’t just a formality – it could save your life.
