VP at Major News Outlet Loses Job After Walmart 'Skip-Scanning' Scandal
The Rio Rancho Police Department responded to a Walmart in New Mexico after an alleged shoplifting incident involving a news executive. According to police, two boys were seen knocking over store displays and consuming unpaid Monster Energy drinks, which they then hid on a shelf. When officers arrived and approached the boys, they were directed to their father, Patrick Ethridge, 47, who was at the self-checkout registers. Ethridge, who served as Executive Editor and Vice President of The Albuquerque Journal, was allegedly "skip-scanning" items, bypassing payment for some goods. The family was escorted to the store's loss prevention area, where all three received shoplifting citations. Following the incident, Ethridge reportedly left his position at the newspaper.
