Old Tar River, written by Joel Sweeney in the 1840s, describes one of the most famous rivers in North Carolina. Clifton Hicks, an Iraq War veteran, is among the foremost experts in historical banjo playing. He performs this song during the 165th anniversary of the Battle of First Manassas.
