Where Islam & Christianity Meet 🇮🇩 Istiqlal Mosque + Jakarta Cathedral

My plans today got a bit thrown off due to heavy rainfall all morning, but thankfully it let up and I still had a few hours of daylight left to get a first impression of what Jakarta has to offer. Jakarta is a MASSIVE city, with the metropolitan area being home to over 42 million people, making it one of the largest cities in the entire world. That being said, there is plenty of exploring to do. I was staying in the Central Jakarta area, which is perfect for a few of the cities most iconic landmarks, including: Istiqlal Mosque, the Jakarta Cathedral, and the National Monument (Monas). The Istiqlal Mosque is the largest mosque in Asia, as well as the 7th largest in the entire world with a capacity of 200,000 worshippers. One of the most unique things about this mosque is that they built a tunnel connecting it to the nearby Jakarta Cathedral, as a sign of brotherhood and unity between the people of both religions. Although the tunnel isn't currently open to the public, it was very cool to see such a big emphasis on unity between the two religions, as so much of the world is focused on chaos and division. I also managed to find some delicious food throughout the exploration, ending the day with one of the most delicious meals I have had in Indonesia. Although this video is only a tiny glimpse into the huge city of Jakarta, I hope you all can see how much of a beautiful and welcoming city that it is. I hope to spend a lot more time here in the future. #indonesia #jakarta #firstimpressions #istiqlal #mosque #cathedral #islam #christian #nationalmonument #streetfood #unity
