Paul Mickelson at the Robert Morton Pipe Organ - Heaven Came Down
Paul Mickelson is once again on the theatre pipe organ playing a well-known gospel song. It seems to me Paul almost always used the Robert Morton (Lorin Whitney's organ) on most of his organ recordings including this one. Not that I mind. The sound is truly spectacular and it's evident Paul was getting even more comfortable and adventurous at this point in his career. This album proves it. The album notes say that Paul is in championship form here and I have to agree. I always thought it was funny that many of my albums say this is a "giant" organ. It's a 32-rank theatre organ but I can think of many organs much larger so I suppose album liner notes are sometimes prone to exaggeration. Anyway, it scarcely matters any more so just sit back and enjoy a true prodigy of the organ. Note: my apologies if the bass comes on a little too strong. I tried lessening it but the original producer must have liked distorted bass.
