Today, we'll be melting copper at home. I've had this idea for a long time; I really wanted to melt copper. A furnace and a graphite crucible will be used for melting, holding copper wire. The fuel will be brown coal, specially prepared for this melting process. Air is forced in with a regular hair dryer. Without a forced oxygen supply, temperatures of 1100+ degrees Celsius cannot be reached. Melting copper requires very high temperatures. Using firewood is unlikely to work, and it would require a lot of firewood. The result, for a first attempt, was very good. I managed to melt beautiful ingots. The molten copper was poured into graphite molds designed for these temperatures. Not everything went as smoothly as I'd hoped, but the result was positive. Watch the video for more details.
