5029 'Nunney Castle' unassisted up Upwey Bank, 'The Weymouth Seaside Express' Sunday 29.08.10

In this video we really do see the power of the GWR's 4 cylindered 'Castle' Class locomotives, as number 5029 'Nunney Castle' lifts a 9 coach train out of Weymouth up the 1 in 50 Upwey (Bincombe) Bank with no help from the rear. This was the first railtour I had ever been on and I enjoyed myself a lot, traveling from Bristol Temple Meads to Weymouth, a seaside town I hadn't been to before, on the Heart of Wessex line, a route I had never rode before and the locomotive that hauled the train is probably my favourite engine on the mainline. A big thank you to the 5029 Support Group and Nunney's owner Jeremy Hoskins for being able to provide her for this trip after the non-availability of both 70000 'Britannia' & 70013 'Oliver Cromwell', I somehow doubt it would of been anywhere near as good with a standard on the front of the train. I have edited this video so that only the bits with the less wind noise are featured and when Nunney was storming. We also see the train along the way to Bristol Temple Meads including departing Bath Spa. So just sit back, turn up the volume to full and listen to the 4 cylinders of 5029 working their hardest!
