The XGIMI Horizon 20 Max outperforms all the other projectors I've tested. It's by far the brightest, the one with the best contrast, the highest frame rate for gaming, the best input lag, the widest color space, and the best optics...and that's not all! All the strengths of previous generations are also present. As usual, the manufacturer's figures are a little higher than reality, but the result is nonetheless excellent. The XGIMI Horizon 20 Max I tested was one of the first units made available to testers, so the figures could be even better for the commercial version. Whether for SDR, HDR, or Dolby Vision, this projector delivers an excellent image. The basic colorimetry is on par with the previous generation, and it's possible to improve it even further with calibration. I'm sharing my settings with you so you can take advantage of them as well. The image is sharp, the color rendering is excellent, and the contrast is much better than previous models. I just have to moderate my comments regarding the contrast; dynamic contrast provides a huge increase in contrast, but sometimes with color drift (especially during transitions). This projector also features new types of settings, notably with AI, to improve images from older (low-resolution) sources. Gamers will also find what they're looking for with this projector, particularly thanks to its higher frame rate at 1080p and its extremely low input lag. This new XGIMI is undoubtedly one of the best gaming projectors available today. If you have a recent console or a high-performance PC, you'll be able to get the most out of it. The sound quality is also good, with the usual 2x12-watt Harman-Kardon speakers, which was already the case with the previous generation. So there are no major flaws, but there are a few things to be aware of. The brightness is very high, which means that if you only use this projector in total darkness, you'll have to lower the brightness considerably to avoid being disturbed. The Pro version will probably be more suitable. You should also be aware that despite the high brightness, using it in bright light will affect the image quality. It's not like a television yet. Colors will deviate from the norm depending on the type of ambient light, and the image will be less contrasty. A white screen with a gain will even tend to aggravate the problem. An ALR screen, on the other hand, will allow you to better control the ambient light, but this is a different budget. I have some recommendations in my article on this subject. Brightness is good, but it can also become a problem. The projector is quite heavy and bulky. If you plan to use a tripod, you'll need to choose a weighted one like the one offered by XGIMI; the projector weighs over 5 kg. The tilt allows it to be oriented toward the ceiling, but if you're using an HDMI source, the HDMI cable may prevent you from positioning it vertically due to the lack of space between the stand and the projector. This XGIMI Horizon 20 Max ticks many boxes, and given the number of times I receive questions about using a projector in daylight, I think it will attract a new audience to video projection.
