The designated Finance Minister, Miguel Gómez, issued a stark warning about the critical state of Colombia's public finances and the rigorous economic adjustment plan that the incoming administration will implement starting August 7. In an interview with Mañanas Blu, Gómez was unequivocal in diagnosing the country's fiscal situation and asserting that the government must immediately curb excessive spending. Gómez severely criticized the announcement by outgoing Finance Minister Germán Ávila to submit a new tax reform bill for 30 trillion pesos on July 20, labeling it "proof of the failure of the outgoing government's public finance policy." According to the incoming minister, the current financial imbalance is unsustainable: between January and April, the government spent an average of 40 trillion pesos per month, while only collecting 28 trillion pesos, generating a monthly deficit of 12 trillion pesos. The designated official clarified that, while the De la Espriella administration will consider its own tax reform, it will have a radically different approach than the current one.
