Dmitri Shostakovich is arguably one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. In commemorating the 40th anniversary of his death in 2015 we take the opportunity to revisit his life and works. Never before any filmmaker has had the chance to draw on the complete cycle of the composer´s 15 symphonies and all of his six Concertos, brilliantly performed by Valery Gergiev, the Mariinsky Orchestra as well as hand-picked soloists.
