ABC"2" of RAILWAYS: X is for A1X CLASS
A short film to explain why William Stroudley's London Brighton & South Coast Railway 0-6-0T Terrier locomotives may variously be described as A1 Class or A1X CLASS. After nearly 40 years of service a programme to extend the life of the Terriers by fitting new Marsh boilers started in 1911. It was these modified Terriers that had the 'X' added to their classification. This is illustrated in this film by reference to all of the UK's preserved Terriers (one A1 and eight A1X).
