Breve histórico sobre a cidade de Jequitibá- MG: Bandeirantes, buscando ouro pedras preciosas ou terras férteis para cultura, atingiram a região onde se localiza o município. Em 1670, chegava ao local, procedente de Sabará, um sertanista de barbas longas e brancas conhecido pelo nome de 'Borba Gato'. Veio pelo rio das Velhas, trazendo escravos e índios mansos e ao encontrar um lugar aprazível nele, fixou-se. O lugar ficava à margem de uma lagoa, próximo à foz do ribeirão Jequitibá, naquele rio.
