You have neck tension and related tension headaches, perhaps also tension between your shoulder blades. One of the main muscles responsible for neck tension is the upper trapezius. However, you can't simply loosen it by stretching—because it's not tense to annoy you, but because your shoulder blade and rib cage are trapped in a bad position. In this video, you'll learn how we can change this position with medical fitness training so that the trapezius relaxes again and your pain disappears permanently. In this video, I'll show you: which muscles you need to train to relax your trapezius muscles. why stretching is hardly effective and a waste of time. good functional alternatives that not only eliminate your pain but also make you more flexible, strong, and efficient. It's also important to understand that stretching doesn't actually change the tension of the muscles themselves, but if anything, it changes the tension of the surrounding tissue. This can provide short-term pain relief, and your mobility might improve slightly, but you haven't addressed the underlying cause in the long run. Therefore, let's get back to the topic of shoulder flexion, or in other words, raising your arms overhead, or at least above shoulder height. Almost everyone with neck problems also has trouble raising their arms overhead for extended periods. It's also important to understand that stretching doesn't change the tension of the muscles themselves, but rather the tension of the surrounding tissue. When you raise your arms overhead, the shoulder blade begins to rotate upwards at around 90° and above. The higher you raise your arms, the further the shoulder blade rotates upwards, and the more the trapezius muscle is tensed. Therefore, this isn't an exercise I would recommend for acute tension, as the trapezius is already under strain due to its secondary function: supporting the spine, regardless of whether you're in a rounded or flat back position. It's important to first perform a counter-exercise and actually rotate the shoulder blade downwards again (demonstrate). The opposing muscles are the triceps and rhomboids.
