The temple is known for its strict rules and regulations, which include a mandatory 41-day fasting period for male devotees before they can enter the temple. Women between the ages of 10 and 50 were previously not allowed to enter the temple, citing the celibate nature of Lord Ayyappa as the reason. However, this rule was lifted by the Supreme Court of India in 2018, leading to widespread protests and controversy.
