Classic VW starts, runs & idles but dies when coming to a stop. WHY!?

Classic VW starts, runs & idles but dies when coming to a stop. WHY!? We got our bug running really good starts right up idles and drives down the road perfectly but when you push on the clutch and come to a stop it would fall on its face and stutter and die almost every time couldn’t figure out why I kept checking the fuel filters they were getting debris in them but didn’t realize that it was possible to make it through two fuel filters and then clogging up the jets, it really doesn’t take much of the tiniest particle of debris to get into your float bowl and then directly into the idle jets. How to save the $254.00 a new fuel tank costs by putting in the work and cleaning and stripping and conditioning the inside of your fuel tank.
