There are a few things to keep in mind when using these pronouns in Korean. First Person Singular In German, the word "ich" is neutral. It's neither formal nor informal, and is therefore never rude. In Korean, it's different. In Korean, there are two different personal pronouns "ich." One of them is 저. You probably already learned it in the beginner's course. The second is 나. You've probably already heard it in K-pop or K-drama. We'll learn the pronoun 저 first because 저 is more polite. Second Person Singular If you Google translate "they," the formal second person singular, it says 당신, but you mustn't say 당신 under any circumstances. If you say "당신," it's rude because we don't address the person we're speaking to directly in Korean. When we use "Sie," we address the person we're speaking to without the subject. 당신 is only used with spouses or when we're arguing with someone. You in Korean is 너. 너 is informal, so 반말. We use it with friends who were born in the same year or with younger people. Because 나, so 반말 for "I," and 너, so 반말 for "you," sound similar and are easily confused, we often say 니 in spoken Korean. 3rd Person Singular In Korean, there are no personal pronouns for he and she. So how do we use the third person in Korean? Instead of a pronoun, simply say 그 여자, 그 남자, or 그 사람, which means this woman, this man, or simply this person. In German, there are masculine, feminine, and neuter. These don't exist in Korean, but when we're talking about something, we can also say 그것, which means "this thing." However, these aren't personal pronouns. As mentioned, there are no pronouns for he, she, or it. 1st Person Plural We in Korean is 우리. We use 우리 not only as a personal pronoun for "we" but also as a possessive pronoun for "our," "ours," and "mine," for example, for family members (우리 엄마, 우리 아빠, 우리 언니, 우리 오빠), for everyone except younger siblings, for the company (우리 회사), for school (우리 학교), for home (우리 집), or even for the teacher (우리 선생님). Second Person Plural Do you remember? 너 is you. Second person. 너희 is you, the second person plural. 들 is the plural ending, so you can say 너희 or 너희들. 너희들 is you, but you know, that's Banmal. The polite form of 너희, in the second person plural, is 여러분. 여러분 is a polite second-person plural pronoun that we use in class, during presentations, and so on. Not when we're addressing a group of our friends. It would be too formal for that. Another way to politely address a group of people is, for example, 선생님들, 사장님들, i.e. 선생님 or 사장님 with 들, the plural ending. Third Person Plural We use "그 사람들" for "they," the third-person plural. Just like with the third-person singular, there is no separate personal pronoun for it. "그" means "these," and "사람" means "people," as we already learned with the third-person plural. If we now add the plural ending, "들," we simply say "this group of people."
