Rural BioReFarmeries | Visit to the ACRRES demo site and PaperFoam facilities in The Netherlands

Following the tradition of meeting in person every 6 months, the Rural BioReFarmeries consortium reunited on 3-5 June in The Netherlands – this time, for a very busy and intense (but also fun) trip. We spent a full day visiting the demo site facilites managed by ACRRES, as part of Wageningen University & Research in Lelystad, dedicated to researching renewable natural resources at farm-scale. Another highlight of this trip was the tour around PaperFoam's HQ and factory, where their team of biotechnologists and specialist researchers are developing the first packaging prototypes using grass fibres as the main component. The work carried by our Dutch partners, in collaboration with other researchers in the consortium, is a clear example of how sidestreams derived from green biorefinery activities can be valorised to create a full circular system.
