Il volto culturale di TRENTO Città delle Alpi

As preparations for the Christmas Markets are underway, Trento and Trentino are preparing to show guests from across Europe the face of a border region traversed by great cultural ferment. The most familiar face of this historical and artistic inclination is undoubtedly Buonconsiglio Castle, as confirmed by Alessandro Casagrande, head of communications for this museum as well as for the other provincial monuments and collections. The Castle is an inexhaustible treasure trove of the history of this living and breathing borderland, offering a panorama spanning several millennia dedicated to Alpine archaeology, as well as the historical and artistic processes that have shaped it. Two highly attractive exhibitions, both for experts and non-experts, further enhance the attractions. First, there is the exhibition curated by Emanuela Rollandini and dedicated to the extraordinary Rest on the Flight into Egypt, painted in 1831 by Francesco Hayez, the greatest interpreter of Romantic culture in Italy. This work has been hidden from the general public since its creation, but today it can be admired alongside several other paintings by the artist, such as the Sorrowful Virgin, a Madonna and Child, and others. The Castle's exhibition spaces also feature Saint Sebastian by the sculptor Andrea Briosco, known as Riccio (literally, "The Hedgehog") due to his hair. This is a previously unseen sculpture by the great artist to whom the Castle dedicated a monographic exhibition ten years ago, as museum curator Luciana Giacomelli explains. What we see is a terracotta work created in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. The tension of the face, the incisive and graphic modeling of the hair, and the tight and precise anatomical rendering of the body highlight the typical features of Riccio's art. With Alessandro Casagrande, we then recall the displays that will make Buonconsiglio Castle a Christmas attraction, as well as the initiatives involving other castles in Trentino, starting with Castel Thun. We then visit the Sass space in the central Piazza Battisti to experience Roman Trento up close: a testimony that equates to a great journey through urban and domestic history. We then visit the Vecchio Mulino hotel restaurant, located on the road from Trento to Riva del Garda, just before Vezzano. A quiet, almost secluded spot where guests can enjoy traditional Alpine dishes as well as seafood: a combination guaranteed by the experience of Armando Corsini and Italo Petrucci, the organizers of this new tourism and gastronomic experience.
