Airborne Affordable Flyers 06.11.26: Finalizing MOSAIC, DeltaHawk 2Cyl, Tarragon
Also: Thatcher Light Aircraft, Oshkosh No-Shows, Garver Flying Circus, World Aerobatic Championships With less than 40 days left before Oshkosh 2026, the big topic of interest is the Final, yes, we said FINAL release of all things MOSAIC. The actual release date is still a little foggy but the ‘other half’ of the reg is expected to be announced with significant fanfare at some point during this year’s AirVenture... and not a moment too soon. MOSAIC was finalized and published in the Federal Register on July 24, 2025, establishing two separate effective dates — one for sport pilot privileges last October, and one for light sport aircraft manufacturing and certification this coming July 24th. In their newest and most sport-aviation-relevant announcement. DeltaHawk's CEO highlighted the DHK 2H Engine Series — an 80 HP, 100 HP, and 120 HP two-cylinder, horizontally opposed twin, two-stroke, compression ignition engine with fuel compatibility for Jet-A, Jet-A1, JP5, JP8, SAF, and #2 diesel. And yes, the DH two-cylinder series explicitly has designs on MOSAIC implementations -- a scenario that could give the folks at Rotax a serious case of hiccups. At this year’s SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo, we spoke with the team behind the Tarragon program as crowds gathered around one of the event’s most talked about light aircraft. Even with military demonstrations roaring overhead, the sleek carbon fiber design continued pulling attention thanks to its unusual combination of speed, efficiency, and advanced construction.
