He found that most residents had already evacuated the area, while officials continue to cordon off the area, monitor for subsidence, and keep a 24-hour watch on buildings. July 10, 2026 Following a water leak in the tunnel of the Purple Line subway project, the Tao Poon-Rat Burana section (South Purple Line), near Wongwian Yai station, a construction project by Unique Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited, an evacuation order was issued yesterday for residents in buildings within a 30-meter radius, instructing them to evacuate and refrain from using the buildings for safety reasons. This morning, a news team visited the site and found that officials had cordoned off the area for safety, particularly the pedestrian overpass which was usable yesterday but is now closed due to its proximity to the leak. The team also observed that most houses and shops in the area were closed, with no residents or business owners inside the buildings. Most residents have evacuated the area, with only a few remaining inside the buildings. Furthermore, officials continue to inspect the condition of buildings and measure for subsidence. This includes 24-hour monitoring of building vibrations and tilting using the “ScopeEye” instrument, installed by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) in collaboration with USAR Thailand. Regarding traffic, after authorities closed all traffic at the incident site and opened a detour route at Ban Khaek intersection, significant traffic congestion occurred at the detour point, causing slowdowns. Traffic around Wongwian Yai roundabout remained relatively stable, albeit with occasional slowdowns, under the close supervision of traffic police from Buppharam Police Station. At the median strip of Wongwian Yai roundabout, in front of the King Taksin Monument, a command center and complaint center have been established to assist the public. Relevant agencies, including the DDPM, municipal officers, and UNIQUE company, are stationed at the center. Later, at 7:30 AM, Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt, along with Acting Lieutenant Colonel Dechathorn Saengamnat, Director of Thonburi District, and Police Colonel Phuwadol Unphothi, Superintendent of Buppharam Police Station, arrived at the scene to monitor the situation. Mr. Chatchart spoke with relevant agencies to inquire about the current situation this morning, including questions about traffic problems after the road closures at the incident site. He also spoke with local residents to clarify the situation and apologized to some of them for the inconvenience caused by the incident.
