Cheap DIY Mods and Farkles for 2012 + Suzuki DL650 V-strom 650
Not everything you buy for your motorcycle has to cost an arm and a leg. In this video, I go over some of my cheapest mods, most of which are home built. The local big box home improvement store can be your best friend should you decide to undertake some of these mods or come up with your own. Feel free to comment and share your ideas or your success stories with what you made. The mods I show you are: 1.) Trashcan Handguard Extensions Any plastic trash can or a plastic storage tub will work. Most people will have something laying around that will work. All of the hardware I used is stainless. Home Depot doesn't have the nice button-head hex bolts in metric, so I used SAE. The hex heads are 3/32" and the nuts are 3/8, so 3mm hex and 10mm wrench work ok on that size. 2.) Lexan Wind Deflectors I owe the person who came up with the design on these deflectors a shout out and link to their for sale thread of the forum. Also, cutting and sanding lexan can be very messy and it took me a lot of trial and error and time to make these. Possibly not worth it, so definitely give these some consideration: http://www.stromtrooper.com/group-buy... I can't remember what combo of plastic spacers I used to replace the stock fairing bolt. I took it with me to the store and matched the shoulder size up to the spacer that fits down in the recess of the fairing. This small sheet of Lexan is plenty for two deflectors: http://www.homedepot.com/p/LEXAN-10-i... Most auto parts will carry the door edge guards for $4-5 that I used to prevent the deflectors from slipping and hold them in place since they are only held on with the one bolt: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/co... 3.) ABS Sensor Guards I forgot to show the rear sensor guard, but it is much the same as the front. Touratech is happy to sell you some fancy laser cut stainless steel guards for $30.80 per wheel. My version was about $5. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3... 4.) Tractor Owners Manual Tool Tubes ( I misspoke in the video about this being a medium size canister. This is considered the large size sold by Agri Supply. There is a website selling these as motorcycle specific tool tubes that sells 3 sizes, one being larger than the one I have). Here are the links to Agri Supply: http://www.agrisupply.com/manual-cani... http://www.agrisupply.com/manual-cani... I used these Loom Clamps below. Buy the size that matches the diameter of tubing to which you are mounting the tool tube. Givi racks generally use 5/8" diameter. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Crown-Bolt...
