Welcome to our live owl nest-box cameras from a working farm on the Cumbria–Lancashire border. Here you can watch the lives of two of Britain’s most iconic owls — barn owls and tawny owls — from quiet daytime roosting to the drama of night-time hunting, courtship and raising owlets. What you might see: adult owls returning with prey, owlets being fed, nest-box roosting, or sometimes simply the calm of a barn or woodland at night. Our farm sits between the South Lake District and the Lune Valley. It’s a commercial mixed farm, but one managed with wildlife very much in mind. In recent years we have restored hedgerows, planted native trees, created ponds and installed nest boxes to support owls and many other species. ⸻ 📷 Camera Guide This live stream combines several cameras positioned inside and outside owl nest boxes around the farm. Nestbox One This nest box is sited in a modern open-fronted agricultural building used for storing hay bales. Nestbox Two This nest box is located in an adjacent traditional stone barn, a very quiet location with minimal disturbance. Tawny Owl Nest Box Located in a small, quiet wood on the edge of the farm, providing a more secluded habitat for tawny owls and other woodland wildlife. ⸻ 🦉 Barn Owl Nest Boxes Our resident barn owls — affectionately known to viewers as Mr & Mrs B — have become a much-loved part of life on the farm. The male first appeared in October 2020 and successfully raised his first brood the following spring with a previous partner. The current female arrived in autumn 2021, and together they have since become a very productive pair. Their breeding record so far includes: • 2021 – 3 owlets fledged • 2022 – two broods raised: 4 owlets and 3 owlets • 2023 – 5 owlets fledged • 2024 – 3 owlets fledged • 2025 – two broods raised: 4 owlets and 3 owlets Cameras positioned both inside and outside the nest boxes allow viewers to watch the full story unfold — from courtship and egg laying through to feeding visits, owlet development and fledging. Regular viewers may notice a few identifying features: • Mr B (male) – ring on his right leg, usually with a very clean white chest • Mrs B (female) – ring on her left leg, typically showing darker flecking across her chest Both birds are ringed as part of long-term monitoring which helps build a picture of breeding success over time. ⸻ 🌲 Tawny Owl Nest Box In the woodland nest box we occasionally see our local tawny owl pair, Basil and Sybil. They showed strong interest in the box earlier in the season, with the female roosting there regularly during February, suggesting they might nest inside. However, like many tawny owls, they appear to have chosen another nearby location to rear their young this year. Nature is rarely predictable though, and the box has still proved attractive to other wildlife. A pair of stock doves — Bonnie & Clyde — have taken up residence instead. They laid a couple of eggs, but after a brief encounter with Sybil the tawny owl, the nest was abandoned. ⸻ 🌿 Farming With Wildlife This is a commercial mixed farm managed with wildlife in mind. Over recent years we have: • replanted miles of hedgerows • planted thousands of native trees • created new ponds and wildlife habitat • installed nest boxes for owls and other species These cameras form part of a wider effort to share the wildlife that lives alongside farming and celebrate the biodiversity that working landscapes can support. ⸻ 📌 A Note for Viewers Wildlife follows its own rhythm.
