Waterproofing and Staining Wood Planter || DIY Garden

There is nothing wrong with leaving the wood planter as is. You will get the natural rustic weathered look. However there is a plus to weatherproofing the planter. As typically the planter is made out of thinner wood and not necessarily redwood or cedar, weatherproofing could help its durability. In this video, I am using Behr weatherproofing stain and seal paint, which is readily available at the Home Depot store... right across the block from here. You can use whatever brand you are familiar with. Please note that I am using the term 'stain' and 'paint' interchangeably here for this purpose. There are two types of weatherproofing paint, one that is clear/transparent and one that is solid. Both can be tinted to color other than white or clear. If you choose to put color in the stain, there are two type of base, one for light color, one for dark color. Ask the associate at the store and they should be able to help you. Solid stain will get you the look of a regular paint applied on wood. Where as clear stain will allow the wood grain to show through the stain. In this video, the espresso stain is 'clear' base, and the white stain is solid base. Tips on doing this project: Remember to line the floor where you work, for paint will drop and splatter. Gloves would be handy too actually, unless you don't mind washing your hands thoroughly after. You could flip the planter upside down first, to paint the legs and underside, I was just lazy doing that and I didn't mind sitting on the floor and ducking under :) If you are sensitive to the paint smell, wear a mask, and do it in a well ventilated area. I did it in front of the garage, with work fan blowing in the background. Always, always stir the paint frequently while staining. It will ensure even distribution of the mix and slows down the surface from drying out. Use cheap brush that you don't have to clean. if you are worry about keep trashing things away, well, have a paint thinner handy and a metal or porcelain container to wash the brush after. personally, I rather buy a dollar brush, but Andy insisted on washing the brush. ----- Social Media links:   / husbandtofeed     / husbandtofeed   Stuff in this video: White Base Solid Stain and Sealer: https://thd.co/31hFgdA Transparent Base Stain and Sealer: https://thd.co/3k7Ay9O Cheapy brush: https://www.homedepot.com/p/2-in-Flat...
