The 3rd project of my Bach Challenge! I took on one of J.S. Bach's greatest masterpieces with a trio ensemble of Okinawan Sanshin. However, I immediately regretted my optimism... (lol).Please listen to my ultimate challenge that has pushed my boundaries further than ever before, breaking my record for the most difficult piece yet! The original piece is the famous 4th movement (Chorale) from J.S. Bach's church cantata, BWV 140 "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" (Sleepers, Wake).While it is often performed on the organ, piano, or classical guitar, how does it sound when played on the Okinawan Sanshin? Controlling the pitch was extremely challenging, and it might sound like ethnic music from a different country. However, I hope you enjoy this unique flavor that only a Sanshin ensemble can create. I will definitely re-record this in the future once my skills improve! 😭💡 This piece is based on the Biblical parable of the "Wise Virgins waiting for the Bridegroom (Christ). "It expresses the salvation and joy of "The dark night is over, and the radiant morning of joy has come! Awake!" while also conveying the solemn reminder that only those who stayed awake and prepared are invited. In this video, our beloved Tardigrade (Kumamushi)—the ultimate creature capable of surviving the harshest environments—silently offers a prayer in harmony with the sacred sounds.Reflecting on the various hardships we face in the modern world, I deliver a message of warm healing and prayer through the gentle yet powerful sounds of the Okinawan soul.
