The execution area at Treblinka I
There were two camps at Treblinka. The first, Treblinka I, was based around an existing business and a gravel pit. The occupation authorities took over the business and sent prisoners to work in the gravel pit. These prisoners could be farmers who had failed to meet the allocation of food that they were to provide to people who had committed small acts of resistance. The second camp was the death camp at Treblinka II. Here people were murdered either in the gas chambers or by shooting. Those that were chosen for murder from Treblinka I were led through the forest as shown here to a location several hundred metres from the camp. Here they were shot.
