do not derail the train of thought (2025) - Matthew Huang Mailman [Score Video]
do not derail the train of thought (2025) Performed at Arizona State University, Katzin Concert Hall (AZ), 02/28/2026 Performers: Kodachrome Saxophone Quartet Soprano Saxophone: Uday Singh Alto Saxophone: Jade Deatherage Tenor Saxophone: Siobhan Plouffe Baritone Saxophone: Bonson Lee Composer: Matthew Huang Mailman do not derail the train of thought is an odd title, I must admit. It is a pseudo-portmanteau of 2 debatably unrelated ideas. The first is my love of trains. Many of the gestures and textures in the piece were heavily inspired by trains – the whistles, screeches, and rumbles. Secondly is this much more amorphous idea of the stream of consciousness – the way our thoughts get from point A to point B. A train of thought, so to speak. Perhaps they are more related than I initially presented them as. However, I have doubts if my knowledge about the history of the Pennsylvania Railroad will have much bearing on metaphysical philosophical discussions.
