EDITORIAL BY LARRY LEVY Whenever we talk about the judicial system, we never point to it as an isolated issue, but rather as part of a much broader legal and social framework that is failing from its very foundations and content. A common saying sums it up perfectly: "the same people always pay the price for what's done to them." It's a truth that comes from the people themselves. If we add to that reality the web of complicity within the prison system, the average citizen is stripped of any possibility of rebuilding their life, left to their own devices in a system that consumes them. But the breaking point occurs when the education system tries to build a bridge toward inclusion. Right there, that effort is sabotaged and attacked by powerful sectors. These are the same sectors that need to perpetuate social divisions to simulate a strength that, in reality, is nothing more than their greatest weakness. In debates and journalistic accounts, the demand is repetitive: lawyers, intellectuals, and leaders agree that the justice system and the entire penal apparatus need major surgery. However, this widespread outcry does not translate into real action and exposes the enormous chasm between those who pull the strings of the courts and ordinary citizens who end up trapped in the gears of a perverse machine that only produces more marginalization, zero rehabilitation, and a vast network of corruption. We will try to focus on a key issue: education behind bars. And we will try not to lose sight of the hidden interests that surface every time we dare to speak of true justice and social equity.
