Christian Dior — Il genio timido che ha cambiato la moda per sempre | Documentario
Christian Dior: From Normandy to the Olympus of global fashion. A ten-part documentary that traces the entire life of one of the most influential men of the twentieth century, from his entry into the world to the legacy that continues to shape contemporary fashion. This original production on the Storie di Creatori channel, curated by Marco Valenti, is not a simple biography. It is an in-depth investigation into Christian Dior's private and professional life: his childhood in Granville, between his mother's rose garden and the smoking chimneys of his father's factory; his youth in Paris, amidst art galleries and devastating economic crises; illness, poverty; and his long apprenticeship at the houses of Robert Piguet and Lucien Lelong during the German occupation. And then came the turning point: the meeting with industrialist Marcel Boussac, the opening of the maison at 30 Avenue Montaigne, and that morning of February 12, 1947, when a show of ninety dresses changed the history of world fashion forever. The documentary explores in detail the cultural and historical significance of the New Look: why a silhouette with a nipped waist and full skirts had such a powerful effect in postwar Europe, what resistance it encountered, and how it managed to win over women from every country and social class. It also delves into the entrepreneurial revolution that Dior ushered in the luxury sector: the licensing system, the birth of perfumery with Miss Dior and Diorissimo, international expansion with offices in London, New York, Buenos Aires, and Melbourne, and the most famous clients of the time, from Marlene Dietrich to Grace Kelly, from Ava Gardner to Marilyn Monroe. A significant portion of the documentary is dedicated to the human dimension of Christian Dior: his relationship with his models, particularly the women of Russian emigration to Paris who held a special place in his vision of femininity; his anxious and superstitious nature; his passion for cooking and fine dining; and his deep bond with the young Yves Saint Laurent, who would become his successor at the helm of the house. The documentary concludes with a detailed overview of the creative heirs who succeeded one another at Avenue Montaigne after Dior's death in 1957: from Marc Bohan to Gianfranco Ferré, from John Galliano to Raf Simons, from Maria Grazia Chiuri to Jonathan Anderson, appointed creative director in 2025. A rigorous narrative, grounded in documented historical sources, designed for those interested in the history of culture, applied art, and twentieth-century European civilization. No concessions to superficiality: every section of the documentary is crafted to convey the complexity of a man and an era.
