Mantenimiento a bomba de vacío
Vacuum Pump Maintenance Although vacuum pumps are indispensable tools for technicians, few know that they require preventative maintenance to ensure their lifespan and achieve the deepest vacuum as quickly as possible. Many of you might say, "That doesn't need maintenance," "Just change the oil," and "Why bother? I've never done any maintenance and it works fine!"... Despite widespread skepticism, every vacuum pump requires preventative maintenance. Before discussing preventative maintenance, we must understand that vacuum pumps are primarily composed of a split-phase electric motor and an eccentric compressor, connected by a rubber coupling. Each component requires periodic inspection and maintenance. Let's divide vacuum pump maintenance into three points: 1. Electric Motor The electric motor used in vacuum pumps is a split-phase type with a permanent capacitor, meaning it requires a run capacitor for proper operation. When disassembling the vacuum pump, it is essential to check the capacitance and condition of the run capacitor. If it is blown or outside its capacitance range, it could cause symptoms such as motor overheating, difficulty starting, increased current during operation, or even burn out the electric motor. 2. Eccentric Compressor The eccentric compressor uses a hygroscopic oil that lubricates and absorbs moisture and acidity from the system each time a vacuum is created. For this reason, we must monitor the condition of the vacuum pump oil. How often should the oil be changed? This depends on the use of the vacuum pump. It is generally recommended that the oil be replaced every 100 hours of use, but keep the following in mind: If you have just evacuated a system that contained acidity, you should replace the oil immediately to prevent internal corrosion of the vacuum pump. The oil in vacuum pumps is usually completely transparent or translucent with a light yellow tint. If the oil changes color to orange, brown, dark red, or black, it indicates that the oil must be replaced because it has lost its properties or is contaminated. If you observe the presence of water in the oil, or if the oil changes to a white or light gray color, an oil change is essential. 3. Coupling When disassembling the vacuum pump, it is essential to check the condition of the coupling that connects the electric motor to the eccentric compressor. Over time, the rubber of the coupling can crystallize, deform, or disintegrate, damaging the coupling. In short, the oil in a vacuum pump should be changed every 100 hours of use or according to the oil's deterioration. Twice a year, the condition of the run capacitor and the motor coupling should be checked.
