Here's an exercise to practice this dissociation: 1 - Play C, D, E, F, G, F, E, D, C with both hands together, slowly. 2 - The right hand plays two notes while the left hand plays only one. 3 - Reverse the order: the left hand plays two notes while the right hand plays only one. 4 - Repeat the previous two steps several times. 5 - Mirror playing: the two hands play in opposite directions. The right hand starts on C while the left hand starts on G. 6 and 7 - As with steps 2 and 3, play two notes with one hand while the other hand plays only one. 8 - Repeat steps 6 and 7 several times, making sure to maintain a smooth and even playing motion.
