After the Meghalaya High Court upheld Sonam Raghuvanshi's bail, Raja Raghuvanshi's family is now approaching the Supreme Court. The family has stated that they will soon file a petition in the Supreme Court to have Sonam's bail revoked. Raja's elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, stated that they are dissatisfied with the prosecution's performance. He alleges that the case was not presented as strongly as necessary in court. The family has now decided to pursue the legal battle themselves and hire a private lawyer. The family has also questioned the actions of the Meghalaya Police. They claim that Sonam was not clearly informed of the grounds for her arrest at the time of her arrest, which is why she received relief in court. The High Court also stated in its order that due process of law was not followed during the arrest and considered it a violation of Article 22(1) of the Constitution and Section 47(1) of the BNSS. It is noteworthy that Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi were married on May 11, 2025, in Indore. A few days after the wedding, they went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. Sonam was reported missing on May 23, while Raja's body was found near a deep gorge in Sohra (Cherrapunji) on June 2. This incident shocked the entire nation.
