Inside an 8-Acre Gaushala for 400 Cows in Maharashtra! (Case Study)

Set within a 350-acre orchard landscape in Dahanu, Maharashtra, Gaughar Gaushala reimagines the traditional cattle shed as a humane, climate-responsive habitat for cows. Designed for 400 cows, the project transforms a once-congested shelter into an open, breathable environment shaped by light, ventilation, and ecological balance. Built using basalt stone, exposed brick, bamboo, and handcrafted elements, the architecture supports animal comfort while reviving regional craft traditions. Beyond shelter, Gaughar Gaushala functions as a regenerative ecosystem where cattle, farming, water systems, and caretakers coexist in harmony.
