A WCAG 2.1 testing methodology which explains the what and how of manual accessibility testing

Accessibility testing is hard. How do you upskill team members to understand WCAG 2.1? How do you explain testing with screen readers? This is a challenge I faced with new team members and requests to standardise the testing. I created a checklist which made accessibility testing consistent and removed different interpretations and inaccurate assumptions. When a team's accessibility maturity is low creating a checklist with this methodology results in a testing process anyone can understand. 0:00 Accessibility testing is hard 1:06 How long does an audit take? 1:17 Accessibility knowledge can't be retained by just one person 2:14 Peoples whims can affect accessibility testing results 2:47 What to test and how to test are two different things 4:43 Sufficient techniques provide hints for what to test 6:02 50 Success criteria become 96 individual tests 6:42 The whole process of accessibility testing could be sped up 7:18 How long does it take to run these tests? 7:56 WCAG by itself is not an effective measure of a sites accessibility 8:54 I don't like the often-quoted advice about screen reader testing 10:24 Add 9 additional tests for screen reader testing 10:34 Screen reader compatibility testing matrix 12:07 I needed to test an average path through the application 12:55 The testing pyramid and what to place emphasis on 13:35 This methodology doesn't factor in the nuances of accessibility testing 14:03 Summary 14:54 How to create your own accessibility testing checklist Transcript https://bit.ly/38JsEAl Instructions for creating your own checklist https://bit.ly/35twRpY Subscribe to our newsletter https://bit.ly/3eORGOk Subscribe to our channel https://bit.ly/36ZHdwQ We're CANAXESS a digital accessibility company putting the user first in digital product development.
